Artist Statement

Switching from an economist to a creator, I have always been torn between opposite personas - I long for absolute truths and I am drawn to the uncontrollable. The need to understand these emotions and establish connections, both within myself and with the external world, has been the cornerstone of my practice.

My latest project In-Between was designed to record and preserve the evolution of the mind and perspectives throughout transitions, and translate the associated emotions into visuals. The project is a visual biography of my own life throughout a peculiar phase, evolving from an uncontrollable urge to reason with the chaos, a desperate attempt to hold the transient hostage, to the acceptance of the impermanence.

Driven by the changes in my own philosophy and emotions, my practice shifted from drawings to a conceptually informed multi-media discipline. Informed by On Kawara, Chiharu Shiota, I have unleashed my obsession with time, order, and domestic life by compulsively creating archives under self-imposed routines without an end. The archival system has become the spine of my practice. Articulated through time, the archives of dreams, hourly photos, diaries, and calendars formed patterns, populated out of portions, and became work of their own: A somewhat truthful translation of reality, unfolding logic out of the irrational, poetics out of mechanisms, eternity out of the transient, infinite possibilities within a finite life, through time.
